Unlocking Potential: Improving Reading Outcomes for Emergent Bilinguals
Despite their significant potential, many emergent bilingual students experience difficulties meeting grade-level expectations in reading and content-area classes. In this session, Dr. Capin will explore individual and contextual factors that influence the reading development of emergent bilinguals. He will highlight language and reading practices found in his research to improve outcomes for emergent bilinguals and their peers. This session will feature sample instructional materials and tools for evaluating the alignment of instruction with evidence-based practices for emergent bilinguals, making it highly relevant to teachers, administrators, and all those who serve this important population.
